Why I Wrote You Are Not Alone: Depression

Why I Wrote You Are Not Alone: Depression

By Kimberly Reddick

Sometimes, the inspiration for a book begins long before we ever sit down to write it.

Years ago, I owned several books written by a preacher that were organized around different topics. If you were struggling with depression, anxiety, love, or another challenge in life, you could simply turn to that section and find Bible verses along with thoughtful discussions about what Scripture had to say.

I found those books incredibly helpful.

There was something comforting about being able to open a book, find the subject weighing on my heart, and discover passages of Scripture that spoke directly to what I was experiencing.

I never forgot that feeling.

From a Simple Idea to Something More

When I first began thinking about creating a Christian book of my own, my original idea was fairly simple: a 52-page Scripture journal.

But the more I thought about it, the more I questioned whether that was really what I wanted to create.

There are already countless Scripture journals available. And while journals can be wonderful tools for reflection, I wanted to do something different.

I wanted to create a book that might genuinely help someone.

Something a person could reach for during a difficult season and find encouragement, understanding, and a reminder of God's presence.

That idea eventually became You Are Not Alone: Depression.

Why I Chose Depression

Depression can make the world feel like a lonely place.

Even when people care about us, it can sometimes be difficult to explain what we're feeling or find the encouragement we need.

I wanted to create a biblical companion that readers could turn to during those moments.

Not a book that pretends faith makes every problem disappear. Not a book that suggests there's something wrong with someone for struggling.

Instead, I wanted to offer a place where Scripture, reflection, and encouragement come together to remind readers that God's love and presence are not limited to the easy seasons of life.

My hope is that someone opening this book during a difficult day might find a passage, a thought, or a few words that help them feel a little less alone.

More Than Just a Book

One of the most meaningful things about becoming an author is realizing that something you've created might reach someone you'll never meet.

I may never know who's reading my book, what they're going through, or which passage speaks to them.

But I hope the words provide comfort when it's needed most.

And if even one person finds encouragement through something I've written, that matters to me.

The Story Behind the Book — In My Own Words

Recently, I created a video sharing what inspired me to write You Are Not Alone: Depression.

Creating the video was a new experience for me, but I wanted to share the story personally, in my own voice.

I'd love for you to watch it.

My Hope for the Future

You Are Not Alone: Depression is a beginning.

I would love to continue exploring other topics through Scripture, including anxiety, love, and the challenges we all encounter throughout life.

My goal isn't simply to publish more books. It's to create books that offer something meaningful to the people who need them.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about my journey as an author.

Whether you're here because you love Christian books, you're looking for encouragement, or you're simply curious about my writing, I'm glad you stopped by.

And if you're going through a difficult season right now, I hope you'll remember one thing:

You are not alone.

Find Hope. Find Strength. Find Him.
